LEUCODERMA AND VITILIGO Here we are discussing about white skin patches. There can be two conditions leading to white skin patches which are defined below :
VITILIGO :
A skin condition where smooth, irregular white patches appear on the skin of any part of the body due to destruction of pigment producing cells (melanocytes). The most common places are face, neck, eyes, nostrils, nipples, navel, genitalia, body folds (armpits, groin) etc.

1. SKIN GRAFTING :
It involves removal of healthy skin from one of the area of the body and transplanting it to the area affected by burn. Normally skin is removed from an area, which normally remains hidden by clothing. The graft is then placed over the affected area and often held in place with aid of a couple of stitches and / or dressing. Skin grafts are of two types, split- thickness grafts and full-thickness grafts. The former consist of a few layers of skin and heal up fast. The latter are deep skin drafts and take comparatively longer to heal. Both donor and donee sites are covered with antiseptic dressing to prevent infection and aid quick healing.

Erbium and CO2 laser. These are the gold standard methods for
skin rejuvenation,
acne scars, sun-damaged
skin and facial wrinkles. They have different characteristics and which one is used depends on your needs.
The Erbium laser is a very effective
laser for rejuvenation of acne scarred skin. It is also effective for ageing, sun-damaged and wrinkled skin. This technique is safe, accurate,
less invasive and produces less heating of surrounding tissues than some other
laser technqiues, eg. CO
2 laser.
Clinical studies have shown that The Erbium laser stimulates the production of the bodies own collagen, creating a tightening and smoothing of the skin.
The
CO2 laser is a
more invasive treatment generally used for deeper scarring and wrinkles and produces more heating of surrounding tissue than the Erbium laser. Consequently, as the skin heals it produces additional collagen which in turn produces a further reduction in wrinkles. Once the skin has healed, the new skin reveals a softer, smoother, more youthful appearance.
Virtually anybody of any age who has acne scarring. How much you benefit depends n the depth of the scarring. Often a combination of treatments is required to achieve the best results.
What happens in a typical treatment? How will you feel during treatment?
Laser skin resurfacing is usually performed as a day procedure. Normally a local anaesthesia is used so you will be completely awake but if a larger area is being treated sedation is used to improve comfort. The sedation will mean you are sleepy and usually unaware of the procedure taking place, though not fully unconscious.
What are the potential side-effects?
While laser
skin rejuvenation is a well tried and successful procedure there are some issues that can occur. These are well covered in your preliminary consultations and include:
- Pigmentation can be a side effect but normally resolves itself and is more likely to occur in patients with darker skin. Although it is not necessarily created by sun exposure it can be treated with bleaching cream.
- Cold sores can sometimes be provoked by this treatment. If you have suffered with these we recommend that you take preventative medication before and while undertaking the procedure.
- Itchy skin is usually a temporary problem that resolves as the skin heals.

How will you feel after treatment? What do you need to do after the treatment to ensure the best result?
After your procedure you may feel drowsy from the anaesthetic. It is important to have someone drive you home and stay overnight. A thin clear plastic dressing is usually applied to speed healing and reduce pain. This will be removed by your doctor when he checks your progress.
After your skin has had
laser treatments it may feel hot and slightly uncomfortable (a little like sunburn). This will reduce gradually. Mild to moderate swelling is normal and may last for several days. The use of cold compresses and ice packs will help with these symptoms.
You will be given medication to take to prevent swelling and infection and it is important that you take this as instructed.
After healing the young skin is red and sensitive. Special makeup can be worn to cover this. It is important you protect this new skin by avoiding the sun, covering up, and wearing a hat and sunscreen for a few weeks to several months. We can advise you when it is safe to relax these precautions.
A
special skin-care regime will also be designed for you to follow. This can involve special moisturisers, vitamin C, vitamin A and special sunscreen. We can advise you on everything you can do to give yourself the best result.
When will you see results?
Redness can be present for up to 6 months after
CO2 laser treatment and for up to about 6 weeks after
Erbium laser treatment. Makeup can usually be used to conceal this after 14 days.
How many sessions are necessary?
For resurfacing, one to two sessions, but more if scarring is deeper.

Moles are basically an overgrowth of skin cells. Depending on the number of pigment cells contained in it a mole may be dark in colour or the same colour as the surrounding skin. Previously cutting and stitching was the only technique available to remove moles and it often left a scar more visible than the original mole.
At the Ashley Centre we now have the latest technology for mole removal that avoids this.
The Ellman Surgitron shaves away a mole until it is smooth with the skin surface and then seals it with diathermy to avoid bleeding.
How does Mole Removal work? What can it do for you? The Ellman Surgitron shaves away a mole in tiny slices till it is level with the skin surface and at the same time seals the blood vessels with heat so there is no bleeding.
Patients of virtually any age and skin type can benefit from this procedure. Moles generally do not just grow above the surface of the skin, they also may have a deeper section. Shaving the mole flush with the skin surface is excellent and safe for benign moles. If there is any doubt, then the mole is excised in total and the excised skin is sent to pathology for assessment.
What happens in a typical treatment? How will you feel during treatment? The treatment is quick and simple and you will feel no discomfort. The mole is marked with a pen under local anaesthetic and when the skin is numb the Ellman Surgitron shaves the mole down until it is flush with the rest of your skin. As it works the Ellman seals off the blood vessels at the same time causing no bleeding. No stitches are required.
How will you feel after treatment? What do you need to do after the treatment to ensure the best result? You may notice your skin looking yellow after mole removal but this is normal and passes. Using ointment that we supply you with and a simple bandaid, and reapplying the dressing after showering will minimise any discomfort or pain and prevent infection.
Where the mole was removed will dry out in around 10 days but can take up to two weeks for large moles. Any redness will fade within a month or so, and a slightly paler spot is the most that will remain.
When will you see results? The mole is removed immediately.
